In 1807 Napoleon Bonaparte was on top of the world. To celebrate a recent victory he decided to host a rabbit hunt and set his Chief of Staff to organize things for his generals.
When the hunt began, instead of racing off to freedom, the bunnies all bounded toward Napoleon. His horrified entourage did their best to pull the hordes of rascally rabbits from him before admitting defeat and hastily escaping in his carriage. Whereupon the rabbits split into two phalanxes and continued the chase, many of them even making it into the carriage. The embarrassed Chief of Staff later discovered that rather than endure the hassle of catching wild hares his servants had purchased thousands of domesticated bunnies.
